From December 2008 to April 2009, Malbec released a series of five EPs in five months, called the Answering Machine EPs. They wrote, recorded and released a new EP every month.

In 2010, they were featured on The Knux EP entitled "F@&k You" on the song "Fruits," which they co-wrote with The Knux.

They parted ways with their original drummer, Mark Pontius, in December 2009, but the rest of the band continued working on a new full length album in 2010. Mark Pontius went on to be in a band called, Foster The People
