The following is a list of active chapters and colonies (prospective chapters) recognized by the fraternity as of July 2011. There are currently 52 active chapters and two colonies. Chapters are listed in the order of their original founding.

The Delta Beta chapter, originally founded in 1987 at the American University

, disaffiliated from the national fraternity several times in the 1990s and 2003 for 'Poor Greek Relations' and failure to pay dues, Delta Beta then reorganized under the name Sigma Omega Alpha (ΣΩA). Delta Beta resumed affiliation with the National Fraternity in 2010.

The Delta Pi chapter at the University of Ottawa

 was ordered to cease operations in 2006, after a dispute with the National office concerning the National insurance policy. Delta Pi sought permission from the National office to find an alternative insurance provider that complied with Canadian law. The National office formally denied their request in August of 2006. Delta Pi subsequently disaffiliated and became an independent fraternity.http://deltapi.ca/ The same insurance dispute led to the failure or disaffiliation of all Canadian chapters by August of 2008.

The Delta Nu chapter was founded at Western Michigan University (WMU). ΣAM began there as a colony in 1989, and was fully admitted as a chapter in 1992. The fraternity shut down in 1996.

The Gamma Tau Chapter at the University of Florida

 ceased operations in 1996. It was recolonized in 2004 and ceased operations again in 2007. Finally, Gamma Tau was recolonized in 2010 and followed by its rechartering as of 2011.

Canadian Chapters

 informed the Octagon that the American insurance provider failed to comply with Canadian law in 2005. They requested permission to secure an alternative and equivalent Canadian provider. Their request was denied in August 2006 and their Charter was revoked. Delta Omicron at York University

 were forced to shut down in 2007 due to impecuniosity, which was a direct consequence of the National insurance policy. In 2008 Chi at McGill University

 was the only surviving Canadian Chapter. It demanded that the National office allow Delta Pi's 2005 appeal and establish a Canadian insurance alternative pursuant thereto. It further demanded that the National office act to quash the Octagon's 2006 expulsion order issued against Delta Pi. The National office offered to consider the former but rejected the latter out of hand. Chi responded by ceasing all financial transfers to Indianapolis. The National office subsequently ordered Chi Chapter to cease operations in August of 2008. However, Chi refused to comply and has continued to operate notwithstanding the order.
