The Kia Soul is a subcompact station wagon that was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Auto Show and went on sale as a 2009 model elsewhere and in North America as a 2010 model.
The vehicle was designed at Kia's design center in California. The Soul will be produced in South Korea for the global market. Kia announced in July 2008 that the Soul would begin production late in 2008, with the first vehicles appearing at European dealerships in February 2009 and U.S.

First spyshots of the car appeared on the November 18, 2007.
2006 concept
The Soul was originally unveiled as a concept car during the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and by late 2006, Kia announced it would put the car into production as a 2009 model.

Interior details
The interior features two semi-bucket seats in the front. In the rear there are flat-folding seats that can be moved in order to increase storage space.
Audio and multimedia equipment
The Kia Soul will be sold with a four-speaker stereo system that includes a CD player, a USB port and Sirius Satellite Radio. Additional features available for upgrade include additional speakers, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth for hands-free connectivity.
Upgrades, accessories and other details
A big selling point of the Soul will be the ability for the consumer to purchase lots of upgrades to create their own custom car. These include 18" alloy wheels instead of the standard 15" steel, cruise control and leather wrapped steering wheel. Further Kia will be offering a myriad of other custom options including racing stripes, dragon graphics, houndstooth body graphics and LED turn indicators.
On the top of the soul is an available power moon roof.
Engine specifications
The North American version of the Soul is initially available with one of two inline four-cylinder gasoline engines. The base model is powered by a 1.6 liter unit producing 122 horsepower and mated exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission. Higher trims feature a 2.0 liter unit producing 142 horsepower connected to a standard five-speed manual transmission with a four-speed automatic available as a stand-alone option. A 1.6 liter diesel engine is slated to join the lineup at an undisclosed date.
Electric hybrid version
Kia has unveiled in the 2008 Paris Motor Show
the Kia Soul Hybrid. The Kia Hybrid features a 1.6 litre gas engine with a 15kW, 105 nM electric motor tied together with an automatic transmission greatly reducing CO2 emissions and fuel usage..
Kia Soulster concept
Kia has also shown a concept vehicle called the Soulster based on the Soul (revealed prior to the 2009 NAIAS show in Detroit). The Soulster is a two-door, four-seater with an open roof over at least the rear seats. It has a roll-bar and some reports indicate it is intended to be a four-seater or two-seater + pickup configuration.
