The Kalyals who were setteled in the State Jammu And Kashmir, Played key role in the independence of the Kashmir.

First ever Kalyal, late Abdul Karim, belonged to the Chawksavari Kalyal Village, District Mirpur, was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly of Mahrajah Hari Singh's loohk Subah in 1936 till 1944 and later another Kalyal late Mohammand Yousaf, belonged to the Kalyal Sherou Mirpur City, was also elected as a MLA till 1947.Some Kalyals (famous Chaudhry Roda Khan and brothers families) were settled in the Village Sagra Tehsil Mehndar of District Poonch in Indian occupied Kashmir and migrated during partition and now settled in Sehnsa (Chaudhry Bagh Hussain S/O Chaudhry Din Muhammad, Ghulam Din ex Police Official and Chaudhry Lal Hussain S/O Sher Muhammad) District Kotli AJK.

When the Muslim Student Federation (MSF) was formed in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, before the independence of Kashmir ,Kalyal Mohammand Raffique, Nephew of Kalyal Mohammand Yousaf, became the first President of the Muslim Student Federation of Kashmir.

The Kalyal also played a key role before independence, to establish a National Political Party Named, All Jammu And Kashmir Muslim Conference.

Kalyals still dominate the District Mirpur Azad Kashmir, in the shape of the Politics,Industry and Construction Business.

In the business and construction, two main dominated Kalyals are, Zafer Anwar and Sayeed Saleem, Sayeed Saleem has also served as the President of the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce.

In the Politics, dominated Kalyals, in the District Mirpur, were and are, Chaudhry Anwar of Chawkasavari Kalyal,late Mohammand Azam of Kalyal Sherou ,
Late Abdul ur Rasheed of Kalyal Sherou, Shoukat Yousaf of Kalyal Sherou,late Mohammand Hanif of Kalyal Sherou,Advocate Touseef Iqbal of Kalyal Sherou, Advocate Khalid Rasheed of Kalyal Sherou.

In poonch district main village of kalyals is Sehra and some other parts of hajira tehseel. Muhammad Hussain is the main dominated kalyal in this reagon.

A very popular international British Politician and also a member of House of Lord, belongs to the Labour Party, Lord Nazir Ahmed Of Rotherham, is also belongs to the Kalyal Sherou Mirpur Azad Kashmir and is a also Nephew of the late Kalyal Mohammand Yousaf. Another Kalyal, Wasim Yousaf, Grandson Of late Mohammand Yousaf, is a very popular and dominated figure of the Labour Party in the City of Sunderland, United Kingdom,serving on various key positions such as, General Secretary of The Black Asian Ethnic Minority Group (BAME)within the Sunderland Central Labour Party.
