After completing his education, Syed entered the field of radiation safety. When asked about how he came into this field, he said, "When I did my postgraduate studies in radiological physics, radiation safety was part of the curricula. When I worked as Chief of Medical Physics in India, Canada, and the United States, radiation safety was part of my job responsibilities. While pursuing my Master's degree in nuclear physics, I became fascinated with health physics. Since then, I have tried to learn as much of this field as possible."

Work in the Islamic community

Syed is a member of several Islamic organizations. He served as a treasurer and secretary in the Association of Muslim Scientists and Engineers. He is a founder and current president of the Islamic Research Foundation International, Inc (IRFI), headquartered in Louisville, and is a past managing editor of its publication, Aalim.. IRFI is the first Islamic Organization in the world that promotes Critical Thinking, Opposing Points of View, Ijithad, Intellectual upliftment of the world Muslim community. He is also the founder of "Evidence Based Religion".

Syed continue to serve as a Philonthropist, Author, Thinker, Speaker, Debator, Problems Solver, Advisor, Innovator, Revolutionary, New Path finder, and Critical Thinker. Syed has written more than 300 articles on a number of Islamic subjects, particularly on Islam and the Qur’an as they relate to science (for example, his article on the history of Islamic medicine). He is the author of the 2002 book Intellectual Achievements of the Muslims and the 2007 book Qur’anic Inspirations. He lectures on Islamic subjects at Islamic centers in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Syed also helped his siblings (two brothers, five sisters and their spouses and their children - a total of 107 individuals) to immigrate to the USA from India. All of these individuals are well settled, gainfully employed and leading happy lives in the USA. Without him the Islamic Research Foundation International, Inc. would not exist that has brought revolutionary changes in the thinking of the Muslim community in the world through Critical thinking, opposing points of view. He is an inspiration and Role Model. He served the developing countries through the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and through the UNDP -United Nations Development Program.
