 occurred in 1948, Huhs' family was in danger of being killed by the rebels. In contrast to Huh's father, his uncle was a communist, so that Huhs' family was ironically protected by the both sides. However, Huh was later told many times that he could've been killed along with his mother during the incident by some communist who was once captivated by his father. The political conflict strongly influenced on Huh's works such as Oh, Han River and Tazza.

After the Korea War was over, Huh's father worked as an administrative officer at Yeosu Office of Education for a while but started his own business. Hur's mother ran a kitchenware branch store which went well since because Yeosu served as a trading base between neighboring islands.

 at university but as his father's business in anchovy fishery was declined, he gave up the dream. Huh instead entered the manhwa world as an apprentice to a cartoonist.

Career

In 1974, Huh debuted with In search for home (Jipeul chajaseo) through a competition seeking new cartoonists hosted by the Sonyeon Hankook Ilbo
