). As one of the eight boroughs of Witten it now calls Witten-Herbede. Before the incorporation with Witten in 1975 Herbede has been a city in the administrative district Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis. Herbede is placed about 5 kilometres southwest of the City of Witten in the southern Ruhr

851: First mentioned as Villa Herribeddiu.
1032: Building of St. Vitus, the first Church.
1208: First mention of Haus Herbede.
1347: First mention of a bridge across the Ruhr.

Boroughs

Before Herbede became a part of Witten, it had five boroughs: Vormholz, Bommerholz, Durchholz, Kaempen and Buchholz

. They lost their status after the incorporation with Witten. The borough of Buchholz is meant to be one of the oldest places in the wole ruhr area. Historians believe that the first settlers came to this place about 2000 years ago.
