 and found guilty. He was sentenced to 3 months hard labor although due to a mistake in the wording of the document Slade was able to escape England before an new indictment could be prepared.

Slade was defended in the trial by a group of eminent scientists who believed his activities were actually displays of control over the fourth dimension. Not least amongst these was Johann Karl Friedrich Zöllner

, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leipzig, who went on to conduct several controlled experiments, using Henry Slade, to evaluate his higher dimensional abilities in 1877. Slade failed some of the tests carried out under controlled conditions but still succeeded in fooling the scientists in several other attempts.
