Demographics

Besides the fact that Ganderbal is CM‘s constituency but it‘s well behind as compared to other districts. The State government has now shown some seriousness towards the developement of the district. The only Central University of Kashmir valley is being constructed in district Ganderbal. Ganderbal has an average literacy rate of 22%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 37%. In Ganderbal, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.There is a Physical Education College, a Sainic School Mansbal, Industrial Training Institute,a Degree college and many higher secondary schools. Since 01-April-2007 Ganderbal is now a district carved out from Srinagar.
