History

The city was founded by Belgorod Voivod between 1540 and 1627 year. According to VV Passek (Essay on the history of the Kharkov province), the city was built on the orders of Tsar Ivan the Terrible (i.e. until 1584) on the right bank of the Donets, 120 miles from Belgorod. (Date of foundation is in the historical literature disputes this).

The first mention of the city was in the new edition of "Books to the Big Drawings" (1627). According to the latest "extract of suburban shelves" (1734), Chuguevskiy fort built on the orders of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich in 1638.

At the beginning of the 19th century Chuguyiv became the center of the eight districts of military settlements, one of which was known as Malinovka. The city received its name from Chuguyiv Chuguevsky mound. The name probably derives from the Tatar word "Chuga", which means narrow Captan with short sleeves. The territory of present and called Chugueva Chugoy, which meant that there are people who are Chuguyiv. The area where the beginning of the 17th century the city was founded Chuguyiv to the 13th century belonged to the ancient Russian principalities of Pereyaslav and Chernigov. In the 16th century, Moscow documents mention Chuguyivske mound as a monument to the city, which existed even before the Mongol devastation of Russia. But in an edict of the Tsar from 1647 states that "Chuguyivske earth and different parts of Moscow for centuries belong to our state."
