Financial Crisis

In early 2010 it was announced that Basketball Ireland's finances were in turmoil. The governing body is apparently €1.4 million in debt causing the scrapping of the senior national teams due to lack of funds. The problems have been attributed to mis-management, accountancy errors and the recession. This has caused huge disappointment within the game in Ireland, in particular as the senior national teams were not particularly well funded. The senior women's team's annual budget is reported to be a mere €48,000. Underage national teams have not been affected as they have always been self-funded.
