Whilst in halls, Archis formed a band with three other friends, one of whom was Duncan Lloyd

. Finding themselves with too many guitarists and no bass guitarist, Archis stepped into the breach.

Not content with completing his studies and working as a local doctor, Archis continued to appear with Duncan in various pub bands over the next few years, which ended in a fortuitous meeting with Lukas Wooller

was discovered by the then-girlfriend of drummer Tom English in a pub, while he was singing along to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", Archis turned his full concentration to playing bass.

Whilst studying at Newcastle University, Archis performed with some distinction for the Medics B football team in the Intra Mural League.
