After ending her studies, Chemberdzhi took a position from 1984-90 teaching at the Moscow Gnessin College of Music. In 1990 she moved to Berlin

 and in 2003 took a teaching position at the Paul Hindemith Music School for children. She has been active in international festivals and has composed film music for several Russian and German
