2009 Elections

Vemuru and Duggirala have been added to the list of reserved constituencies, following a sharp increase in the population of SCs as per the 2001 census. Of the 2,37,658 population in the Vemuru constituency, 54,278 are SCs and 10,429 STs constituting 22.84 per cent and 4.39 per cent of the total population. Vemuru, Amruthaluru, Cherukupalli, Pittalavanipalem, and Karlapalem will form the constituency. Duggirala constituency will get part of Tenali mandal, Duggirala mandal, Kolluru, and Kollipara and be reserved for SCs during the 2009 elections. The total population of the Duggirala constituency area is 2,73,872 of whom 69,790 are SCs, 8,346 STs constituting 25.48 per cent and 3.05 per cent of the population.
