History

Established right after the end of the Korean War in 1954. During September to October 2010 the United States, South Korea and other allied forces conducted a series of air and sea exercises in response to the sinking of a South Korean warship

A number of these bases have been closed by the USFK and most have been transferred to the ROK. Others are to be closed, in accord with a joint US-ROK agreement, around 2016.
