. The competition was divided into two groups according to geographical location in the country – 1 is western Ukraine and 2 is eastern Ukraine. The season stretched from April 4, 1992 through July 4, 1992.

Organization

The league was established from scratch as most of the clubs from the Soviet Second League Ukrainian group (Group 1) were organized into the Ukrainian First League. Because the league was composed of almost entirely amateur clubs it was named as the Transitional. None of the clubs neither competed in the first edition of the Ukrainian Cup

, FC Polihraftekhnika Olexandria, FC Krystal Chortkiv. The last three of them were the best teams of the Republican amateur competition in 1991 and, thus, were allowed a direct entrance to the First League.

For whatever reasons some sources consider this competition as part of the Third League with the best clubs being promoted to what is believed the newly created Second League. In 1992-93 season the fourth level competition was created named as the Transitional League as well, while being composed of the not-so-lucky clubs of the Ukrainian Transfer League 1992. The 1992-93 competition was further supplemented with more of amateur clubs of the former Soviet KFK competition which was relatively highly developed and fed several fine clubs to the Ukrainian professional competitions.
