UCentral is the student media network of the University of Central Oklahoma
University of Central Oklahoma
The University of Central Oklahoma, often referred to as UCO, is a coeducational public university located in Edmond, Oklahoma. The university is the third largest in Oklahoma, with almost 18,000 students and approximately 434 full-time and 400 adjunct faculty...

, featuring the student TELEVISION; the campus RADIO station, ed90.1; the media WEBSITE and social networking sites of UCO360.com; and the campus NEWSPAPER, The Vista. UCentral is located within the Mass Communication Building on the campus of UCO. It provides hands-on, real-world experience for mass communication majors.

UCentral originally began as KCSU-TV in 1976. In 2006, the television station underwent major renovation and digital equipment upgrades to include a state-of-the-art control room and studio. UCentral television features on-going programs such as NewsCentral, the student run newscast; The Huddle, a weekly football highlight program during the fall; Conspiracy, an in-depth look at untold truths; Showdown, a topic driven program looking at both sides; and RandomPlay, a different perspective on college humor.

In 2009, broadcast operations and the campus newspaper converged under the umbrella of UCentral – UCO’s Student Media Network, to prepare students for traditional and new media careers. Not only was this convergence “physical” by sharing a common newsroom, it has started the steps of media integration by melding the websites of the television station, radio station and newspaper to create UCO360.com.

In addition to UCO360.COM, UCentral believes social networking is crucial to the future of multimedia journalism. Students can “like” UCentral on facebook.
