. It is visible from trains passing on the adjacent East Coast Main Line, with the yard located on the western side of the line. Freight handled in the yard includes coal, oil, automotive parts, bauxite and enterprise freight. As of April 2007 the yard handled just over 300 trains a day, evenly spread between day and night.
