Tulgheş and Recea have ethnic Romanian majorities with large minorities of ethnic Hungarians, Pintic has an absolute Romanian majority, and Hagota has a Hungarian majority.

In Tulgheş, there is a mental hospital which used to be a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. In the past, it was also used for the accommodation of 2000 - 3000 Greek children, who became orphans in the Greek Civil War
