. He is the son of film director Roy Del Ruth, and actress Winnie Lightner. He was educiated at the University of Heidelberg, West Germany and USC, Los Angeles and began as a commercial print model and actor after serving as a Paratrooper in the US Army (1965). Del Ruth switched from in front of the camera to behind it in 1966 and was promoted to Director of Photography in 1979 by Universal Studios. Mr. Del Ruth has received two Emmy Awards for outstanding Cinematography as well as five additional Emmy nominations. In addition, he has won four American Society of Cinematographers outstanding Cinematography Awards as well as an additional six ASC nominations. He has received the Fallbrook Film Festeval's "Life Time Achievement Award". He has experience as a cameraman, film producer
