. The place has been a recent addition in the list of sub-divisions in the district of Nadia. Since its declaration as sub-division in 1996, the place is seeing development in infrastructure for setting up a base of state government offices.

Demographics

In the 2001 census, Tehatta community development blocks had a population of 351,654 out of which 180,410 were males and 171,244 were females. In 2010, the town has been declared as a municipality.

Administration

Tehatta is an intermediate panchayat (local self-government) under Nadia zilla panchayat. Village panchayats under it are – Betai I and II, Chanderghat, Chhitka, Kanainagar, Natna(DEBNATH PUR, BAGAKHALI,SAHAPUR, NABINNAGAR), Patharghata I and II, Raghunathpur, Shyamnagar, Tehatta, Barnia, Gopinathpur, Hanspukuria, Palasipara I, Palasipara II, BOYARBANDHA,Khaspur Palsunda I and II, and Sahebnagar.

Village descriptions

  • DEBNATHPUR: This is the most well known village of Tehatta Sub Division. There are one High School (Debnathpur Sarat Sarkar High School) and one Primary School (Debnathpur Primary School).

There is a High Way beside the village. The high way connect two town Krishnagar and Karimpur. One Vodafone Tower.
  • BAGAKHALI: This is also popular village of Tehatta. One khal[narrow river] divieds two village. One Brize is also there. One Airtel tower.one big BIL is there.there is one jr. high school also.well connected to SH-11 by pitch road.ganga mela is the big festival of this village.2 primary school.
  • SHYAMNAGAR: This village is 7 km far from tehetta. About 5000 people live here peacefully. The name of Gram Panchayet prodhan is Purnima Biswas. The jasai tala mela is a big festival of this village.
  • BAYERBANDHA: This is a village which has only a FOOT-WAY to go. And this road is often full of mud. But the people of this village is good.
  • KHASPUR: This is also a well known village.
    • Dhopatta - It is a small but beautiful village. It is connected with Tehatta via Barnia by the main road.
        • HOWLIA - It is a small but very nice peacefully village. There is one good quality primary school. The Tehatta bus stand which is called Tehatta More also known as Howlia Park More. Several types of religiaon are found, beside there is also church locatred in centre of the village. Although it is declared under Municiplity cities but still there is a lack of drainage as well as roades system.

Education

Two major schools to be named:--

1. Tehatta High School for boys - offering Higher Secondary education under WBCHSE. The school has a reasonably good infrastructure and about 1200 students study here. (Snc.,art,comrc)

It's a very good quality school.

2. Tehatta Sridam Chandra Balika Vidyalaya (for girls)

 Puja. The puja is celebrated in all pomp & grandeur during the waxing phase of moon in Bengali Kartik month. The number of puja committees & puja pandals are on the rise each year.

Batsarik Sanskritik Utsav - organized by Tehatta Lotus Club since 15 years ,which is a record among all the Nadia District's cultural programme.This programme runs for last 5 days every year during x-mass and new year eve.

. Tehatta is well connected with Krisnanagar, Karimpur via Krishnanagar-Karimpur bus route(State Highway 11/SH 11) and connected with NH 34 via Tehatta-Palashi /Tehatta Ghat-Debagram route.

Rail

The nearest railway station for connecting kolkata is Kririshnanar City Jn, also there are railway station with 10–15 km at Palashi/Debagram for connecting Krishnanagar/Berhampur..

In 2009-2010 Indian rail budget, new railway route has been declared from Krishnanagar, Nadia to Berhampur, Murshidabad via Tehatta. Also, new railway route between Tehatta Ghat to Katwa Ghat under survey of Indian railway department.
