, Taraori had a population of 22,205. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Taraori has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 56%. In Taraori, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Most of the population works in agriculture, and Taraori has a worldwide reputation for its Basmati Rice. Basmati Rice is exported to the USA, Europe and the Middle East from here. There are a few rice shellers and small industries manufacturing dairy products, honey and so on. This is also one of the most fertile areas of Haryana.
