period (around 10 thousands years ago) due to a powerful shift of an indigenous sandstone from the southern slope of Krasna Mount, when it blocked a narrow stream valley.

Nonetheless, after the shift the waters found their way in the not very dense body of the dam and the lake became flowing. Its waters outflow underground and exiting on a surface 350 meters to the west of the lake and 60 meters lower of its ridge level mark.

The bowl of the lake fill majorly two streams. The level water in the basin constantly changes: increases during rain showers and intensive snow thaw, and decreases during winter and none-rainy season. Scientists estimated that the lake was created in the result of a powerful techtonic shift that was caused by an earthquake. The forest around the lake is believed to be 140–160 years old. There is a very small island in the middle of the lake with an area of a few meters which is called the Sea Eye (Morske Oko). The island has been flooded for sometime. Architect Yuriy Solomin (Юрій Соломін) decorated the area around the lake, with contributions of the sculptors Ivan Brodin (Іван Бродин) and Mykhailo Sanych (Михайло Санич), who created the red tree sculptural composition "Syn and Vir" (Syn i Vir). The composition is 13 meters tall (~40 ft) and rests upon a steel base. Swimming, camping, and fishing at that lake is prohibited. All the services that the park offers cost around $1 (₴ 5, 2008). There is a scenic path around the lake, which is rather round. Along the path park guests will find a few gazebos and a "rest house". There is also a horse-back riding service that takes you on a trail ride around the lake.
