McCaw is a member of Stanford University's Board of Trustees, and served as Co-Chair of Stanford's $1 billion Campaign for Undergraduate Education. She is also a board member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, the Grameen Foundation and the American Austraian Foundation. McCaw is currently a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Council of American Ambassadors. McCaw is the Director of the Craig and Susan McCaw Foundation focusing on education and international economic development projects. Previously, McCaw was the Co-founder and Board Chair of Team Read, a literacy program for at-risk elementary grade students. Formerly, she served on the Investment Committee of the University of Washington.

McCaw served as Finance Co-Chair for Bush-Cheney '04 in Washington State and was a member of the national steering committee for W Stands for Women. She also served on the Women's Coalition Advisory Board of the Republican National Committee. In 2008, McCaw served as Honorary Washington State Chair for McCain-Palin and raised over $100,000 for the McCain-Palin Campaign.
