Summary

St. Michlael seminary was built in 1914 and it is the root of Sungkonghoe University. School name was changed to Sungkonghoe University in 1994. Current rector is KwonSeok Yang who is priest of Anglican Church and theologian.

This school joined at CUAC(Colleges and Universities of Anglican Communion) in 1995 and be in activity. In addition, it was consist of Democracy Consortium of Universities with Sang-ji and Han-shin University in 1999. Also the teaching staff's propensity is almost progressive in keeping with progressive academic traditions.

India Window Program

Students are offered the opportunity to spend a year abroad in India, one of the aspiring centers of information technology. This program combines 8 months of intensive IT training with a three-month internship course. All courses are taught in English, allowing students to sharpen their language skills, in addition to computer skills. Students are required to complete their internships at local (Indian) companies. The India Window Program is one of Sungkonghoe University's most popular programs.

China Window Program

China is fast emerging as one of the lead players in the global economy. In the last few years, China has replaced the U.S.A. as Korea's biggest trading partner and the role China has to play in the global economy is only getting larger. To prepare for this shift of paradigm, Sungkonghoe University's China Window Program offers students the opportunity to spend a year in China studying not only its language and culture but also local business practices in the real world. The one-year program involves an eight-month language and business course with a three-month internship at a local company. Students interested in careers in trade and business,especially with China, are welcome to apply.

Peace Boat

Peace Boat is a Japan-based international non-governmental and non-profit organization that works to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development, and respect for the environment. Peace Boat seeks to create awareness and action based on effecting positive social and political change in the world through the organization of global educational programs, responsible travel, cooperative projects, and advocacy activities. These activies are carried out on a partnership basis with other civil society organizations and communities in Korea, Japan, Northeast Asia, and around the world. Peace Boat carries out its main activities through a chartered passenger ship that travels the world on peace voyages. The ship creates a neutral, mobile space and enables people to engage across borders in dialogue and mutual coopertation at sea, and in the ports that it visits. Activities based in Japan and Northeast Asia are carried out from its eight Peace Centers in Japan.

SPELL(Special Program for English Language & Literature)

The one-year intensive English language program is designed to give students the opportunity to learn English outside of the classroom environment. Students accepted in this program will spend one year at St.Louis University, one of the top 5 universities in the Philippines, attending classes on English teaching methods, English literature and culture, Philippine culture, etc. Students can enhance their Englishlanguage skills and at the same time explore and learn about the Philippines.

International Exchange Program

The Exchange Student Program gives sutdents the opportunity to learn and study in a foreign language. Students selected for the program re given a chance to experience a foreign culture and at the same time attain academic credit.

University Facilities

University Chapel
The University chapel is the center of Sungkonghoe University's religious life. The Chapel offers weekly prayer groups and bible study groups as part of its program. Attendance in weekly gatherings (chapel) is requisite to all undergraduate students. Theology majors are required to attend 8 terms of chapel and nontheology majors are required to attend 4 terms.
