, USA. It is the second newest of the five high schools in RRISD. The principal is Albert Hernandez, who previously worked as the principal of the Stony Point Ninth Grade Center. The Ninth Grade Center is adjacent to the high school and was formerly home to Hopewell Middle School. However, due to overcrowding, a concern that is continuously prevalent in the RRISD school district, the middle school was changed into a freshman-only campus. Due to the opening of Cedar Ridge High School, Stony Point freshmen were moved into the main campus, and the freshman campus is now used as Hernandez Middle School.

The school houses the Health Science (previously Science and Medicine), the S.T.E.M.(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and the Business, Finance, and Marketing Academies. Stony Point has offered the International Baccalaureate

Campus Structure

Stony Point High School, being the second youngest of the high schools in Round Rock, has a very modern architectural layout. The campus consists of multiple wings designated by letters (e.g. A Wing, B Wing, etcetera). The academic wings (A, B, and C) are each two stories high, with multiple stairways connecting the floors. Overcrowding prompted construction of the C wing onto the A wing soon after the school was opened.

On the second floor two skyways connect the academic wings with the "mall" area, cafeteria, and the various other non-academic classrooms (further subdivided into lettered wings). Stony Point High School features a full welding shop, with various forms of welding equipment. Additionally, the shop houses a full tool selection for the students in the agricultural manufacturing course. Furthermore, Stony Point High School offers multiple engineering

Academic and Fine Arts Recognition

May 2007, Stony Point High School made the Newsweek list of top high schools with a placement of 1,068. The rankings are based on the total number of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and/or Cambridge tests that were given at a school last May divided by the number of seniors graduating. All public schools listed achieved a ratio of at least 1.0000, meaning they had given at least as many tests in 2006 as they had graduates. Now although all graduating classes have been outstanding, It has said that the class of 2006 was the most accomplished class academically that the school has seen since 1999.

Scheduling

Stony Point High School, like many other schools both in the RRISD and across the nation, uses a block form of scheduling. Every student is offered, in normal circumstances, 8 periods. These 8 periods are spread across 2 days (titled A and B days), with 4 periods each day, alternating on a day to day basis. Each period is an hour and half long, with a short passing period in between classes to allow a student to visit his or her locker as well as make their way across the campus.

Due to the high student enrollment, students are divided into fourths for lunches. Based on their corresponding 3rd period (on A days) or 7th period (on B days) they will attend a different lunch, also grouped by letters (A lunch, B Lunch, C Lunch, and D lunch). During these lunches, only those students who are seniors are allowed to leave campus with their own transportation.

The Minor Riot

After a media-proclaimed riot on August 24, 2006, Stony Point made headlines. Security after this event was enhanced to a point of total "lock-down" at the campus. The aftermath following the fight, primarily the police handling of the event, lead to an investigation by the NAACP.

A sizable force reported to be around 30 officers strong was needed to quell the fighting.

Sports

The Stony Point Football team is currently ranked #1 in the state and #3 in the nation. The 2008 Stony Point Football team led by Coach Craig Chessher made it to the Texas 5A State Semifinals, finishing #65 in the nation. Coach Chessher has been named Central Texas Coach of the Year for the 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2007 football seasons. The Tigers won the district championship by defeating cross town rival, Round Rock. Stony Point is also home to baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball teams. A successful Tiger Dancers program is in place as they have some of the best dancers in RRISD. Stony Point High School is well known across the State of Texas for its many outstanding accomplishments.
