Simon McGillivray

Simon McGillivray was the younger brother of William McGillivray
and Duncan McGillivray
. Born in Scotland, he was lame and slightly blind.
McGillivray had his education paid for and was brought to Canada by Simon McTavish
. He functioned at first as the tutor to Simon McTavish
's heir, William McTavish and he received 4,500 pounds in Simon McTavish's will. He entered the North West Company
in 1805, becoming the 20th partner in 1812, and he also became a partner in McTavish, Frobisher
and Company in 1813. He mainly worked in the administration of the North West Company
, and lived in Montreal
, often going to London
on Company business. He was appointed a commissioner of the United Mexico Silver Company in 1829, and stayed in Mexico
until 1835.
Simon was provincial grand master of Upper Canada, an office he held from 1822 until his death. Simon had 2 daughters; Anna Maria and Magdalen Julia.
