Silesian Separatist Movement is a movement officially declaring its support for the independence
of Silesia
and official recognition of Silesian nation
in Poland.
The association was founded in 19 March 2007 as Federation for the Development of Silesia because the Polish government is fighting with separatists from Silesia and Silesian nation and will not agree to such a name. After several months, renamed on "Silesian Separatist Movement" (planned name). Now, SRS is a registered association, KRS 0000276432.
The association based mainly in the Polish part of Upper Silesia
. It has its roots in the self-governing entities movement which has a long tradition (Silesian duchies existed about 800 years, from 1138 to 1918), a movement that sees the Silesians as a separate nation rather than primarily as Poles, Germans and Czech.
