The Prophet 2000 was a sampler

(SCI) as its first full digital musical instruments.
Introduced in 1985, it contained by today's standards, a puny 256k to 512k. Most of the sounds generated or music recorded had to be stored onto a floppy disk
that could be inserted and loaded later. It was MIDI enabled, went up to 8 polyphony
, had a total of 8 layers, and an arpeggiator. Its sound output is also puny by today's standards with only 12-bit
lo-fi
sound output. Despite all these limitations, the Prophet 2000 was capable of making some bizarre lo-fi sounds with its analog VCF
's and VCA's.
