B.E/B.Tech courses offered by the college have been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a statutory body of the Government of India and also by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The College is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, the largest Technical University in India.

Saveetha Engineering College (SEC) was founded in 2001 by the Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust, a registered charitable society, running the Saveetha Dental College (now a Deemed University). Established to impart quality engineering education, Saveetha Engineering College aims to be an institution of excellence in every respect and to also illustrate a vision of a model technical institution to other institutions.

Campus

The campus of Saveetha Engineering College is spread over scenic 120 acre (0.4856232 km²), facing Semarambakkam Lake on the Chennai - Bangalore National Highway (NH4) and is located about 10 km from Poonamallee Township on NH4 facing the lake on the opposite side of the Highway.

College buildings have been architecturally and aesthetically laid out amidst a serene environment. Main Building is a Circular Block of about 2,00,000 sq ft (20,000 Sq. M), which will have a built-up area of 400000 sq ft (37,161.2 m²). after completion in 2005-06). This houses the Departments of Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and the common facilities like Administrative Office, the Library, Placement Cell, Examination Cell and the Faculty Development Centre. A separate Block with a built-up area of about 100000 sq ft (9,290.3 m²) houses the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Science & Humanities Department. Separate Student rest rooms for Girls and Boys are provided in this Block. A spacious canteen and a service wing, is located adjacent to the First Year block. All the building spaces are finished completely with marble/ceramic tiled floors. Class–rooms are air-conditioned with gallery type seating arrangement. Laboratories are all well equipped with the latest state of the art computers, equipment and gadgets.

The hostel built up area is 66816 sq ft (6,207.4 m²). Well laid out and planned, separate hostels for boys and girls, within three minutes walking distance from the academic area, are a unique feature of this college. Rooms are mostly single-seated well furnished rooms, 50% of them are bath attached provided with individual geysers.
