 appointed her to the Fort Wayne Board of Public Works. In May 1983, she won a special election to serve the remained of the term left by her predecessor, Charles Westerman. Later that year, she ran for and won a full-term as city clerk, and was reelected in 1983, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007.

In her most recent election in 2007, she ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on May 8, 2007 and received 5,547 votes. She also ran unopposed in the general election and started her 7th term on January 1, 2008.
