The population mostly consisted of Vaghers following Muslim Religion. Other communities are also there, but the town is dominated by Vagher.

Salaya is famous for traditional business related to sailing vessel trade. Here most of the population is connected with sailing vessel trade, it may be commercial trips or building the vessels.
