line from Liverpool Central
between Central and Brunswick
stations. This is now a part of Merseyrail
's Northern Line
. The station is located at the Parliament Street St. James' Place junction, opposite Saint James' Church
.
The station is on an underground tunnel, however not a full underground station being in a deep cutting into the tunnel.
The station closed in 1917 however its proximity to the Liverpool Echo Arena
, Anglican Cathedral
and other new developments in the surrounding area have focused public attention on reopening it.
Parts of the station's platforms survive, as do some rooms cut into the rock face, and can still be seen on Northern Line trains heading for Southport
