On Oprah, Kirkham said he was a functional addict, and that he would smoke crack at night instead of sleeping, remaining high for about six hours, and report for work at Inside Edition two hours later. The footage concerning his drug addiction was used on the movie TV Junkie. TV Junkies filmmakers Michael Cain and Matt Radecki sifted through the video-diary footage to piece together the story of Kirkham's life, focusing on the seven years in which he and his family struggled with his addiction to crack cocaine.
