The town is also home to one of the last Volunteer Fire Departments in New York City, Richmond Engine Company 1, which operates a 2005 American LaFrance Engine purchased through a federal home security grant.

Transportation

Richmondtown is served by the S54 and S74/S84 local buses on Arthur Kill Road, as well as the X15 express bus to Manhattan. Weekend service on the S54 was eliminated on June 27th, 2010 due to low ridership and high cost per passenger, being one of the most inefficient routes in NYC.
