Early life

A native of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Moss attended races at Oaklawn Park Race Track during his youth. During high school and college he worked for Arkansas Gazette

Moss left journalism in 1995 to work as the director of operations for Oaklawn Park Race Track. In 1996, Moss returned to sports writing as a reporter for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. He left the Telegram after he was hired by ESPN.
