The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is a Medical Institute of Ranchi University
situated in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand

. The college is an autonomous body established under an act of Jharkhand Assembly, and is one of the premier medical colleges in the state and India.
The premier medical college is frequently used by Jharkhand
leaders and get shifted to the VIP cottages of RIMS
and was originally called Rajendra Medical College Hospital after Rajendra Prasad
, the first President of India
. The medical college hospital came into existence in February 1965.
Dr N.L. Mitra was the first principal of the college. He was also Professor and Head of the Department of Anatomy. Dr. K.P.Shrivastav was the first director of the institute after it was renamed.
Currently RIMS is in news for its upgradation. The institute provides free medical service to the patients along with many medicines. Developments in the field of surgery is evolving and taking the form of minimal access cosmetically sound (MACS) surgery.
The intake every year is 90 students for the undergraduate course. The college also provides post graduate education in almost every department.The neurosurgery department is one of the best in asia.
The college is undergoing tremendous developments. The government of India has decided to convert RIMS into regional AIIMS,under the education act. All over India 7 regional AIIMS is to be established.
The college has 1500 beded multispeciality hospital with very advanced diagnostic tools.
There are upcoming centres under construction like the
oncology centre with the latest radiation machinery, a 150 seated dental college is about to function from the 2011 session, a cardio-thoracic surgery centre and a nephro-urology centre. All with the latest equipment.
The college also has a 20 beded trauma centre,the first of its kind in eastern India.
The director of RIMS is Dr.Tulsi Mahto(F.M.T.) and dean is Dr.S.N.Choudhary(Opthalmology).
The annual college magazine, Spriha is maintained by the student magazine society.

The students have the facility of a canteen,tennis court,indoor badminton hall.Every hostel is provided with carrom and a table-tennis room.

About 15% of the total seat is filled through AIPMT, a part of it through the central government and rest through the state entrance exam. The college organizes an inter-college fest every year named as synergy.The annual college magazine, Spriha is maintained by the student magazine society.
