History

PA 424 is composed of two different road segments. The first was built in the 1970's between PA 93 and PA 309 and had the designation of SR 3036. The rest of the road to Interstate 81 was built in the late 1990's and opened to traffic in late 1999. In spring 2000 the first 424 shields started to appear on the road. Plans exist for the road to go west to Pennsylvania Route 924
