The PHLX Semiconductor Sector (SOX) is a Philadelphia Stock Exchange
capitalization-weighted index composed of companies primarily involved in the design, distribution, manufacture, and sale of semiconductors.
(ETF). As of today there is no ETF with exactly the same components and weightings of the SOX index, but for investing there is a pseudo-ETF Semiconductor HOLDRs and an ETF iShares S&P North American Technology-Semiconductors Index Fund .

The index was set to an initial value of 200 on December 1, 1993 and was split two-for-one on July 24, 1995; options commenced trading on September 7, 1994.Components
As of June 20, 2010, there were 30 semiconductor companies represented in the index.
