Description

Northridge High School is a comprehensive four year school (grades 9-12) accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. High School students may earn a diploma endorsement in a various number of ways, including Indiana Academic Honors, Academic, Business, Health Occupations, Family and Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Technology of Vocational. There are three transition programs in which seniors can enroll in: the Elkhart Area Vocational School, dual credit at Glen Oaks College, Goshen College

The school year is divided up into four terms and each day consists of four ninety-minute class periods. A student can earn up to 16 credits each year towards the 40 credit graduation requirement.

The enrollment for the 2006-2007 school year was approximately 1250 students. There are 64 full-time certified staff members, 56 full-time teachers, four full-time counselors, one full-time media specialist and four full-time administrators.

Academics

The curriculum consists of all required courses for Indiana high schools such as Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math, Science, Health, and Physical Education. Electives include art, music, business, family & consumer science (home economics), and industrial technology. Northridge has recently adopted the International Baccalaureate program, which is a rigorous degree that takes two full years to complete.

Northridge has a successful Science Olympiad Program, winning the State Competition in 2011 and qualifying for Nationals in 2006 and 2011.

Music

Northridge High School is also a part of the ISSMA organization in Indiana. Northridge has four instrumental groups: a Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and a percussion ensemble. The marching band has gone to state finals for 5 out of the past 6 years, and has achieved competitive results. The Northridge Choral Department is under the direction of Mr. Baker. Northridge has 2 concert choirs (Lyric Lights and Chamber) and two competitive show choirs (Northern Lights and Starlights). Both show choirs have gone to state finals and earned high rankings. Individuals from both programs also regularly compete at ISSMA Solo And Ensemble events. The two show choirs will be performing at Radio City Music Hall
