History

Nanyang Paradigm High School was found in 1901 as an elementary school affiliated to Nanyang Public School(南洋公学), which is now Shanghai Jiaotong University(上海交通大学). It is one of the oldest new type schools in China found by Chinese. In 1927, the school was independent from the university and became private Nanyang Paradigm Middle and Elementary School. After three years, the senior department of the school is opened. In 1931, the school moved into the campus today. In 1956, the school became public school again and was renamed as Shanghai No.71 middle school. In1958, the name of the school was changed back to Nanyang Paradigm Middle School.
In 1959, it was appointed one of the key schools in Shanghai. In 2000, following the reform in the education system in Shanghai, the junior department of the school was closed. The school then became Nanyang Paradigm High School.

Today, Nanyang Paradigm High School is one of the best high schools in Shanghai. And it is famous of its basketball team and orchestra.

Campus

With the development of more than one hundred years, the school now has two campuses named “Tian Ping” and “Tian Yao”. The total area of the school is about 37 mu, including 25,000m2 school buildings and 5,000m2 grassland. The school has modern facilities, such as on 200m-track playground, two indoor basketball playgrounds, one conservatory hall and one T-hall, either of which can seat over 500 people. In addition, the school has many multimedia and multifunctional classrooms, up-to-date laboratories and modern teachers’ offices.

Basketball

Basketball is a traditional event in Nanyang Paradigm High School since 1930s. The basketball team of the school began its legend in 1940s and came to a peak in 1950s. After the Chinese economic reform

, the basketball team began its golden age. It was the champion of almost every year's middle school basketball game in Shanghai and was five-time national champion.

Students in Nanyang Paradigm High School got their own basketball cup in 1982. The "Nanmo Cup" is hold every year from then and have more than 200 matches each season.

Orchestra

The orchestra of Nanyang Paradigm High School was found in 1992. It is now conducted by famous conductor Cao Pen and Zhao Guoyong. The orchestra won Gold Awards in the 15th Australian International Music Festival in Sydney and the 35th Vienna's International Youth and Music Festival.
