Namutumba District was created by Act of the Ugandan Parliament in 2005 and became operational on 1 July 2006. Prior to that the district was part of Iganga District

Population

The national census in 2002 estimated the population of the district at about 169,200. The annual population growth rate in the district is estimated at about 5%. It is estimated that the population of Namutumba District in 2010 was approximately 249,900. See table below:
