. The building, originally a warehouse, was built in 1910 and is typical for the style of the time. The studio spaces (34 in total) comprise situated on the top 3 floors of the building. They are self funded and run as a not for profit organisation.

History

Mother Studios opened in 2001 by, and continue to be run by, artist Joanna Hughes. Mother Exhibition and Project space, now known as Elevator Gallery, opened in May 2004. The Hackney Wicked arts festival is partly organized by Mother Studios, and many of its residents take part in the open studios element of the festival.
