The commune was created in the 19th century out of the merging of the two former parishes of Saint-Aignan (Sanctum Anianum mentioned in the 12th century) and of the Mont-aux-Malades (Monte Infirmorum around 1251 which takes its name from a hospital founded in the 12th century).
