 Commander. In July 1970, Zabri joined the 69th Commando Battalion and he passed the selection after being trained for 5 months. Later, he was appointed as a Commando Chief Instructor from April to August 1971 to be trained with new officers and men joining the team which is known as the 3rd Platoon VAT 69, which was located in Legap Fort, Perak.

Zabri also was committed in an operation which was known as the Ops Jemput Tiga, which jointly operated with the Malaysian Special Branch

 in August 1975 to intercept the communist terrorist who was involved in the murder case of four Extra Police Constable members from the Grik Police Station where the four officers were killed and their bodies were cut by communists with knives. On 3 September 1975, his units succeeded in detecting the enemy camp positions near the Grik and the occurrence of a clash between the 69th Commandos leaderships by Zabri with the communist terrorists, which possessed membership of as many as 30 to 40 enemies before the terrorists' retreat. In the battle, two officers, Corporal Sheikh Ismail and Corporal Aziz Idris, were wounded during the battle and the reinforcement to the Tek Tapong Unit from a communications message had been requested. His units then had an outcome of spot-checking on an abandoned communist camp after the battle, in which they successfully seized 6 filled backpacks of food, clothes, 2 mortars, 18 explosives, 15 food supply boxes, medicines and a few other goods. Besides, they also re-seized the 3 shotguns which were believed that were owned by the four killed Extra Police Constable members.

Death

On 3 September 1975, Zabri died because he stepped on a booby-trap which was set up by a communist terrorist while taking two wounded members to an extraction point area after an operation of hunting down the communist terrorist who murdered extra policemen who were sent to the hospital. His right leg was broken and suffered serious wounds which made him lose lots of blood. He died while giving a message to the members. Among his last messages he said, "Continue your duties... destroyed the traitors. Hunted and destroy them... although I'm leaving the world!" He was enshrined in Tapah, Perak with a full honour ceremony of the police force. Tun Haniff Omar (Inspector-General of Police), Perak Police Chief and all of the attending police officers presented last respects to the late Zabri.
