Mehdi Mohaghegh, sometimes alternately transliterated Mahdi Muhaqqiq, (1930- Mashad,Iran) is an Iranian scholar specializing in Persian literature

and literature; he joined The Faculty of Literature and Humanities at Tehran University in 1960. He has been teaching at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in England

Institute of Islamic Studies in Canada (1965-1998), and The International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) in Malaysia (1991-1996). He is founder and director of the McGill Institute of Islamic Studies Tehran Branch since 1968, where he has collaborated with Toshihiko Izutsu
and Herman Landolt on several important projects. Professor Mohaghegh is author and editor of more than fifty books and over two hundred and ten articles on Persian language and literature, Islamic philosophy
