. Scanlon is also highly touted by the Team Kaobon founder, Colin Heron, who said "Mark Scanlon is one to watch out for. He’s an undefeated welterweight and we have a lot of semi-pros coming through. It’s talent feeding talent. There is a lot to watch out for."

Cage Gladiators

Scanlon made his professional MMA debut in September 2006, against Richard Evans at Cage Gladiators 2. After just over two minutes, Scanlon defeated his opponent via TKO (strikes).

Over a year later, Scanlon returned to fight at Cage Gladiators 5 against Kevin Reed. Scanlon was able to hit Reed with several elbows, one of which opened up a large cut on his forehead. Later on, Scanlon was able to secure an armbar after three minutes of the first round, forcing the tapout.

A few months later, Scanlon fought Gareth Burbridge at Cage Gladiators 6. After Burbridge began to fire off multiple punches, Scanlon decided to take his opponent down. After controlling the rest of the fight from top position, Scanlon won via submission (rear naked choke) in the second round.

Scanlon fought once more for the Cage Gladiators promotion, defeating Greg Letch via heel hook in the first round. Scanlon then suffered a series of injuries, taking him out of competition for 17 months.

Returning in February 2010, Scanlon defeated Marius Buzinskas, a veteran of the English MMA circuit, via choke in just 51 seconds. He went on to defeat Ousmane Sidibe via arm triangle choke in four minutes.

In October 2010 - in what was Scanlon's final fight in England - he competed in the OMMAC promotion, where he faced Michael Reid. After just ten seconds, Scanlon knocked out his opponent via head kick. The knockout win garnered him some minor attention worldwide. Just days later, he signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship
