Despite blaming each other for ending their siblings marriages, Lulu and Maxie began to form a friendship because of the events surrounding Logan's death. The two decide to move in together, though their truce is strained when Johnny breaks all ties with his family. Lulu moves him into their apartment as well. Carly decides to hold a benefit to help fund research on traumatic brain injuries involving children, causing Johnny to feel guilt over his role in Michael Corinthos's coma.  and he wanted to dance with her. At the reception, Lulu tells Dominic she wonders if she will have a love like Maxie has with Spinelli. Dominic tells her she won't have what they have; she'll have what she has. Soon after that, Dominic asks Lulu to dance and they do.

Later, Dominic opens up to Lulu about the only father figure he's ever had in his life, Mr. Poletti, who was his best friend's dad and treated Dominic like a son, including him in all the activities he did with his own kids. Poletti, who was a cop, was eventually murdered behind a liquor store. Dominic believes it was Sonny who ordered the hit. When telling the story to Lulu, he leaves out the fact he was a cop. It was Sonny who murdered him. He tells Lulu a lot of decisions in his life are because of Mr. Poletti. Lulu believes Dominic is working for Sonny to get him to help avenge Mr. Poletti's death. Dominic lets her believe it. After his conversation with Lulu, Dominic decides he can't compromise his beliefs and give Claudia another child that she would only use as a pawn. He confides to Lulu. When he has kids it will be with the woman he loves, and they will be planned for, wanted and loved.

They then run into each other again at the Haunted Star where Lulu is distracted by Ethan and Nikolas' feud over Rebecca. Dominic meets Lulu's father, Luke Spencer, for the first time and tells him he has a wonderful daughter. Lulu pulls Dominic away from Luke and while talking about how Luke surprised everyone by being thrilled to learn Ethan was his son, asks Dominic if he had even wanted to find his own father. Dominic and Lulu then end up at Kelly's where he tells Lulu about how he had tracked down the man he believes to be his father when he was 14. After watching the man with his wife and kids, Dominic realized there was no place for him in that life and let the idea drop. He admits he is not sure this guy was his father since he doesn't have a DNA sample. He says it didn't matter because whoever his father was would be a guy just like that and he didn't have the right to upset his life just to make himself feel better.

On October 27, 2009, Dominic and his handler Ronnie have a dispute on the docks. Ronnie insists on calling Dominic "Officer Falconari" much to his chagrin before he leaves. Just then, Lulu, who has been accidentally drugged from a bottle of spiked water, appears and says she now knows the real reason he carries a badge is because he's a cop. Dominic quickly figures out what has happened to Lulu and tries to take her to the hospital, but she refuses. He continues to tell her she is confused and he's not a cop, but she is insistent. He can't leave her on the docks in her condition, especially if she could tell someone about his identity. He takes Lulu to his apartment to recover. In her drugged condition, Lulu comes on to Dominic and tells him about fantasies she has had of the two of them together. She then initiates a passionate kiss which he allows for a few moments before he pushes her away, telling her that he can't sleep with her because she would hate him in the morning. He then tries again to get her to the hospital, but she refuses and instead ends up sleeping sprawled across his bed while he sleeps in a chair nearby. The next morning, Dominic was relieved to find out Lulu doesn't remember anything from the night before, especially learning he's a cop.

At Claudia Zacchara's "birthday party," Maxie asks Dominic what his intentions are with Lulu. Lulu, overhearing, interrupts and tells him he does not have to answer. He replies he could try but she is hard to ignore. He tells Maxie what happened the night before and how he rescued Lulu. He also tells her he did not lay a hand on Lulu even though she begged him to. Maxie pulls Lulu aside and asks her if all he said was true. Lulu tells Maxie it was. Maxie laughs and informes her that she is totally into this guy. In denial, Lulu disagrees and in an effort to escape Dominic's gaze almost crashes into a waiter. He smilles, but later, being a gentleman, he offers Lulu a drink and states he really he keeps her off balance. She tells him she just doesn't know who he is, to which he replies "good."

Sonny verbally attacks Claudia at the party with the proof he had learned earlier in the evening. She is responsible for his son Michael having been shot a year earlier. Claudia kidnaps Carly. Dominic, not able to break his cover, can do nothing but let them go. Dominic and Lulu set off to find her. At the Zacchara Mansion, they run into Johnny. They search through the mansion. Lulu, determined to find her cousin, tries to search without them and ends up almost drowning after falling through the floor into the flooded basement. Dominic jumps in to save her. While waiting for help, Lulu surprisingly remembers the night she was drugged. She tells Dominic she remembers him and Ronnie talking. Dominic is getting too close to Sonny and his family. Lulu, realizing he's undercover in Sonny's organization, wants him to promise not to take Sonny down, as he is a family friend. Dominic says he can't make that promise to her. When Lulu continues on about what she remembers from that night, Dominic caves and says, "Dante Falconeri, nice to meet you," revealing to Lulu he's Olivia's son.

Dante then tells Lulu that Mr. Poletti was actually Officer Poletti. Sonny was the person who ordered his death. Lulu, not really understanding the mob, claims Sonny would never do that. Dante tries to take her mind off of it and asks her if she likes the opera. She replies she doesn't know much. Dante asks her to go to the opera with him. She then loses consciousness. Johnny arrives with help. At the hospital, Dante asks her once again to go to the opera with him. She says it's an offer she can't refuse. Lulu then asks, sarcastically, if liking the opera is part of his cover. Dante then asks Lulu to keep it on the down low. Lulu tells him it depends on whether he still plans on arresting Sonny. He then tells Lulu it's his job. Sonny needs to be put away for the many deaths he has caused, including Claudia's.

She is in denial for a little while talking to Maxie about her and Dante. She and Dante go on a date, to the opera. She falls in love with it and the two almost make love in the limo afterward, but the limo driver opens the door on them kissing and they stop. Lulu is soon kidnapped by the serial killer

Just as Lucky is about to beat Jason up, Lulu, led by Dante, walks out of the burning building. Lulu calls her brother, who runs into Lulu's arms. Dr. Webber examines Lulu, and tells her besides a few bruises and scratches, she's fine. Lulu thanks Dante for saving her, in front of Lucky, Jason and Sam. Jason and Lucky go after Franco. Dante stays to comfort Lulu. Johnny comes and sees Lulu, and expresses concern. Lulu assures him that she is ok.

The next day, Lulu is still a little traumatized by the ordeal and takes her anger and frustration out on a parking attendant and hotel employee. Carly tries to help Lulu, and talks with her. Lulu takes a walk, to get some fresh air and ends up at the warehouse site. Dante finds her and comforts her. They share a sweet moment and a kiss. Lulu finds out Nikolas loves Elizabeth from Lucky She calls Elizabeth out on it. Lulu tells her that she thinks that Elizabeth encouraged Nikolas. Lulu then goes to see Nikolas and tells him it's best if he take an extended vacation. He suggests France. She says he and Spencer can visit Laura. They hug. Lulu tells him she misses him already.

Lulu encounters Johnny on the docks, who tells her he knows Dominic is a cop. He tells her when the whole thing goes down, it won't end happily for her. Dante comes by and tells Johnny if he has a problem with him, to take it up with him. Johnny says he doesn't want to cause problems for the two, but warns Lulu about all the people who will be mad at her for keeping Dante's secret, namely Luke. Lulu defends her position. Dante leads her to his room above Kelly's. He tells her he has to wrap up the case and fast. He shouldn't have let it get personal. Lulu assumes he is referring to her. Dante tells her after the bust, he will go back to Brooklyn, saying he has a life there, but he doesn't know where that leaves him and her. Dante asks if she is going to point out they're not together. Lulu replies she kept his secret and that should count for something. Dante tries to convince her to leave, but Lulu dodges. Dante tries to resist, but kisses Lulu instead. After, he tells her he doesn't know why he kissed her. Lulu tells him he does. He again tells her to leave. She asks if that's what she really wants. He reluctantly goes to the door and opens it. Lulu calls him an emotional coward and leaves.

The next morning, Lulu is walking on the docks, talking on her phone with Maxie and juggling Kate's personal shopping items and lattes. Maxie tells her not be rude, she wasn't the one crying herself to sleep last night. Lulu tries to deny it. Lulu hangs up on Maxie and drops the lattes. She goes to pick them up. Dante comes and helps her, while she gives him a hurt look. He hands her the coffee and assumes it was Maxie. She wonders why he cares. He responds she cares if she cried herself to sleep. She denies it, and tells him she had a 24-hour cold. He wonders if she is upset. She says she exceeded her tolerance for cheesy pick-up lines anyway, prompting him to tell her a few. She laughs. She then asks him why he suddenly stopped showing interest in her. He says that he wants to do right by her and not put her in danger. To this, Lulu calls him patronizing and sexist. She tells him not to tell her it's over, kisses him, and says she assures him that it is not. She then picks up her things and walks off.

Lulu arrives, late to Crimson, to a sarcastic Maxie. Maxie gives her the opera tickets she wanted for her and Dominic. Maxie leaves as Carly comes and cheers Lulu up, by asking her to be Josslyn's godmother. Lulu agrees. Carly leaves and Maxie returns. She analyzes Lulu's mood and infers things with Dominic aren't going well. Lulu tells her he is pushing her away to protect her. Lulu admits what doomed her and Dominic was her falling in love with him. Lulu arrives, upon Ethan's request, at the Haunted Star. He tells her Lucky is drinking. Lulu calls Lucky and tells him to meet her at the Star. Ethan leaves, Lucky comes and Lulu asks him, point blank, if he's drinking, to which he admits he is. Lulu tries to get him to stop, but tells him he is just like their father and leaves him to the scotch bottle. Lulu, after calling Nikolas and Elizabeth to meet her at Elizabeth's house, shows up and tells them both Lucky is drinking and it's their fault. Elizabeth tries to get Lulu to explain. Lulu does. Elizabeth tries to get Nikolas and Lulu to go with her to the Star to confront Lucky about his drinking. Lulu scoffs at Liz and leaves.

She heads to the docks, where she is upset and crying. Dante is sitting on the bench. He tries to console her, but still remains at a distance. Lulu gets cynical and tells him the Lucky's drinking is the wake-up call she needed because she was getting sentimental about them. He needed to bust Sonny and move on. She leaves him on the docks. Lulu goes to GH and asks Epiphany about the AA meetings and if any pain-killers have gone missing. Epiphany tells her to tell her what's going on. Lulu explains Lucky is drinking. Lulu meets Nikolas at the docks and finds out he and Elizabeth having been sleeping together. Lulu calls him a lying selfish pig and storms off. Everyone watches as Lulu rips into Elizabeth about her deeds. Lulu then walks off and goes to see Dante. Lulu replies by saying she loves him to. They take things to his bed when his phone goes off. Dante talks to Raynor on the phone. He then tells Lulu things are about to change. Arriving at Sonny's, Lulu sees Dante's blood on the floor and finds his cell phone and badge. She goes back to Carly and Jax's party to confront Jason about Dante. She tells him if Dante is dead, she hopes he and Sonny burn in hell, threatening to tell everything about Sonny's organization to the PCPD. Lulu then goes to the hospital only to find Sonny there. Enraged, she takes all her anger out on him. Sonny reveals to her he did not know Dante was his son until after he shot him. Lulu and Olivia see Dante before he goes in for surgery. There, Lulu professes her love for Dante. When Sonny's trial starts, Carly, Sonny, and Jason send Michael to Sonny's island. However, in April 2010, Dante finds Michael. It is revealed Dante covered up a murder for Brenda. In addition, Carly finds a document which indicates Dante signed away his parental rights to his and Brenda's child. She ssumes the two had an affair. In private, Brenda tells Dante she miscarried the baby. However, Dante tells Lulu he had never met Brenda. When Lulu caught Dante in the lie, he changed his story. He barely knew her, and didn't think she would remember him. On January 18, 2011, Lulu breaks up with Dante when she finds out about the murder he helped Brenda cover up in 2007. However, Dante is determined to win Lulu back, and the breakup makes him realize what he had with Brenda was just a crush. What he has with Lulu is real. Dante stepped up and revealed, although he signed away his parental rights, the child was not actually his. Lulu leaves the wedding, visibly upset.  on the accident. Lulu and Ethan do not believe their father is an alcoholic. Neither does Luke, who nonetheless finds himself on a self-destructive downward spiral out of guilt for killing Jake.

Luke tries to burn down his casino the Haunted Star. He also attempts to goad Jason Morgan (Jake's biological father) into killing him. Lulu and the Spencers finally band together in a forced intervention of Luke to try to coax him into rehab. Lulu tearfully recalls how supportive Luke was when she had her abortion. Luke ultimately refuses treatment. Lulu regretfully agrees to cut ties with him until he changes his mind. She has a few run-ins with him shortly afterward, and is angry when she catches Ethan having drinks with him at the Haunted Star. Lulu soon finds herself unable to abandon her father and proceeds to clean up his messes and comfort him. When Luke finally screams at her in a blind rage, he realizes how low he's fallen and agrees to go to rehab. However, fifteen minutes after arriving at the facility, Luke checks out and vanishes. Although Lulu is devastated, she blames her family's "tough love" on his decision and seems to be the only person who believes he will return.

During these tragedies, Lulu begins to ignore her duties at Crimson. When Kate threatens to fire her, she happily quits and plans to run the Haunted Star during Luke's absence. She hopes a renovated, improved business will give Luke incentive to return to Port Charles and remain sober. When Tracy informs Lulu she plans to sell the casino, Lulu obtains funds from Nikolas to buy it.

Yet when Lucky burns down the Spencer home that Lulu was raised in, she decides that she must retrieve her father herself, for Lucky's sake, and departs for Florida.

By the time Lulu arrives at the brothel, Luke has apparently left. Posing as his former business associate, Lulu questions the dangerous brothel manager Javier and a prostitute named Lupe. The two hint that Luke might return, so Lulu takes a job as a cocktail waitress in the brothel with hopes to reunite with him soon. As the three of them exchange heated words, Nikolas surprises everyone when he arrives, having left Port Charles for good after learning that Aidan is not his son. He convinces Lulu to give up the search for Luke, and she and Dante return to Port Charles.

Upon returning, Lulu tells most of her family and friends that she's given up searching for her father and wishes to move on. Meanwhile, when Dante discovers that Lucky might be getting involved in drugs again, he opts to keep it secret from Lulu for the time being, per Liz's request.

Relationship troubles

In August, Lucky takes on a case involving a local drug ring. As a result, Lucky is shot up by thugs and relapses back into his addiction. Dante is aware of this but Lucky insists that he doesn't tell Lulu because he didn't shoot himself up.

Meanwhile, it is Lulus birthday. Dante gives Lulu a key to his apartment and asks him to move in with her, but she cannot give him an answer. After Lucky sobers up, Dante visits him and tells him that he needs to tell Lulu the truth. However, Lulu walks in and hears them talking about Lucky's relapse. She is mad that Dante wasn't honest with her. Lulu breaks up with Dante. Dante pleads with Lulu to take him back but Lulu asks him if he would lie to her about Lucky again. Dante said he would in order to keep Lucky safe. Lulu then leaves Dante.

Lulus stepmother Tracy tries to convince her that Dante is a good guy, and that he only lied to protect her brother. Lulu then goes to Crimson to help Sam pick out a wedding dress. Little does she know that Dante had been in the other room talking to Olivia about her. Lulu holds a wedding dress up to herself, imagining what it would look like on her, when Dante walks in. They have a conversation about their relationship but Dante must leave for police business. Lulu continues to look at herself with the dress on.

Dante then decides that he wants to ask Lulu to marry him. He tells Olivia, and she sets up a dinner for the two on the rooftop of the MetroCourt. Meanwhile, Lulu asks Ethan to help her run away for a little while. However, Ethan tells Dante that Lulu has plans to leave, and Dante finds her at the Haunted Star and asks her to come with him. He takes Lulu to the rooftop and begins to propose, however Lulu talks over him and tells him that she can't trust him anymore. Dante then says "Dammit, Lulu. Will you just shut up and marry me?". Though she hesitates and leaves Dante hanging, Lulu eventually decides to accept the proposal over the surprise dinner on September 23.
