 females. The contest is usually held in churches or in the Swedish open air museum Skansen

. The competition is arranged by the magazines Året Runt and Stockholm City since 1973, but one of the first competitions took place in the 1930s with other sponsors.

The competition takes place December 13 (Saint Lucy's Day) and the four contestants, two runner ups and the winner sing Christmas carols during Christmas Day.

The competition is based on personal interviews and voice capacity of singing gospels and carols. Every contestant represents a Swedish charity organization.
