between Ealing Broadway and Brentford. Along with the E2 service, it links Brentford town centre with Brentford station and the nearby stations on the Piccadilly line

The route was introduced using Renault

midi buses stationed at Hanwell Garage. When the garage closed they transferred to the new Greenford base.
When the E-routes were tendered in 1997 E2
and E8 were transferred from Centrewest
to Armchair at the Brentford garage, using new single door Dennis Dart SLF/Plaxton Pointer
s. When the contracts were renewed in 2002 these two routes' were upgraded to new dual-door low-floor Dennis Darts with Plaxton Pointer 2s with the Armchair's new livery and wheelchair access.
The route was tendered again in 2009, with Metroline
, as successor to Armchair, who retained the contract to operate the route in October 2008. The new contract is operated using hybrid versions of the single-decker, lightweight Optare Tempo
which started operation in March 2009 alongside Dennis Enviro200s and MCV Evolution
s operating out of Brentford garage. These buses consume less fuel and emit around 40% less pollutants than conventional buses.
